It’s a looney Tuesday today. Mom and I had some small adventures on the weekend despite the cold temperatures and bone chilling windchills. For me anything “mommy and me” is fun. I love to hang out with my mom. We started our adventure at the Minnesota United Football Club stadium. We have driven by many times but never stopped.
The team goes by United for short. Mom has see the letters out front and always wanted a photo of the letters. It is a timing thing as the weather needs to be alright, and no one else should be around to photo bomb our photo. It turns out when it is super cold out, no one comes out to play with the letters besides my mom, LOL. Because the letters are so big, Mom put our logo under me, so you can find me in the photo!
The stadium is surrounded by busy streets and a highway making Mom nervous about me taking off, but I was a very good model. You can’t really see them in the photo, but there are names on all of the twelve foot tall letters. There are a total of 11,842 names of fans, one name for each of the lakes in Minnesota.
Now on to more looney things. We heard about a giant loon statue being created last year and by accident Mom saw it when she drove by Alliance stadium in October. No surprise to anyone, I’m sure, she decided it is a must have photo for one day and Saturday was that day. The loon is the Minnesota State Bird. It is created out of some 50,000 individually cut steel feathers that are welded together. The finished loon weighs 25 tons, is 89 feet from wingtip to wingtip, and is 32 1/2 feet tall. It was created in Los Angeles, California and transported here.
The posing was scary for Mom again being on a very busy street corner with a light rail station next to it but she trusted me and we got the photo job done. Here I am at the back of the loon. She couldn’t get all of both wings in the photo but you can see it is huge! Once again, our watermark is under me.
We did manage to get the entire loon in the front photo for our looney Tuesday post. The front is what everyone really wants to see anyway, right? It is pretty amazing to see in person, I have to say. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth a stop. The neighborhood isn’t the best, so be careful about when you go.
