Today we are thankful for avoiding paw freeze. This week we had the massive arctic blast where it was below zero for a couple days and Tuesday morning it was twenty below without the windchill. I have not been in that kind of cold yet. Mom said we all had to wear shoes. What? I had no idea what she was talking about.
The past days I had noticed in the snow my paws would burn so I would race back to the road and they would be fine. It happens to my sisters too. Mom said it wasn’t that bad and she didn’t want to put on twelve shoes so we could go bare paw. Some how minus twenty is way too cold to be bare pawed outside. Out came the PAWZ shoes. Mom had eight blue and four purple. It turns out the color is for the size.
Olivia and I are the first to do our walking so we got to put these things on first. I tried to fight off the shoe but Mom insisted. Finally I had all four on and then I ran around like a bucking bronco. Olivia, who is sometimes weird, didn’t fight this shoe thing at all and walked like normal. We got out side and I totally forgot about my shoes. We took our twenty minute walk with no paw freeze which was nice.
Lucky for me, no one else was out walking in that temperature at six am, so no one saw me with these shoe things. I do have to say it was nice being able to use the facilities without trying to balance on like one paw! My shoes were almost too small as I have jumbo bear paws but Mom says it keeps them from falling off. Olivia wears a size smaller which is blue but her front jumbo pillow paws could wear purple too.
Bailie has very dainty paws and blue fits her perfectly. She knows they stop the paw freeze and lets Mom put them on easily. According to Bailie when you get older, you don’t care about how you look as long as you are not cold or in pain. Hmmm…interesting concept.
For Bailie the shoes give her energy and her walk turned out to be longer than planned as she wasn’t even cold and didn’t want to go home so fast. We are all thankful for being able to walk without any paw freeze these few times of the year when it is so cold. I am wondering if it will be another three years until I have to wear these things again. Avoiding paw freeze is worth it I guess. Thankfully Mom is careful about taking care of our precious paws.
